Wrong approach towards education!!

One of the biggest box office hit of the previous year was “3 Idiots”. In a scenario where all the actors are looking to give hits and achieve the numero one spot in the industry, one man, Aamir khan took up the initiative to establish the same as well as providing the country with one of the most important message. The main theme of the movie was to make the educational institutions realize the fact that mere marks doesn’t achieve the goal of education, and encouragement must be provided to inventions and to ensure that creativity must be encouraged. But the masses took in just the humorous dialogues of the movie, and not the all important and valuable theme.

Right from the very young age, a student is compelled by his/her parents, school, and college to achieve very good marks. The mistake by all these three is that they fail to encourage creativity. So the student develops a mindset that just mugging the thing given in the book and reproducing it in the examination is the goal of education, this approach leads to the complete lack of creativity in the student. This approach does not allow for a healthy future. After few days, the student doesn’t seem to have any knowledge about the concepts that was learnt.

The industries and IT companies which visit colleges for campus interviews, pick a huge number of students. Even in that selection process, very little opportunity is given to creativity. For example, the criterion for attending an interview is set as a minimum amount of grade point or some percentage. Rather, the criterion for attending the same can be set as “the student must have achieved something creative or must have completed some reputed project other than the usual projects which students undergo in their final sem”.
The usual rounds in a campus interview are Aptitude, GD and personal Interview. An important requirement for a professional is creativity rather than GK. Anyone for example a student who is relatively low in talent but strong in voicing his ideas may get placed, whereas the deserving one, the talented and creative one might lose a chance of getting placed due to a minor error in his apti rounds. I feel that encouragement must be given to creative thinking right from the schools. Students must be motivated to think on their own and invent new ideas instead of concentrating on mugging and scoring high GPA’s.
